Decorated Australian Soldier Faces War Crime Murder Charges
Australia's most-decorated active soldier, Ben Roberts-Smith, has pledged to fight five war crime murder charges in his first public statement since being arrested last week. The Victoria Cross recipient, released on bail on Friday, denied all allegations against him and said he would use the legal proceedings as an opportunity to "finally" clear his name. Roberts-Smith, 47, is accused of involvement in the deaths of defenceless Afghan prisoners between 2009 and 2012, either by killing them directly or ordering subordinates to do so.
